Knowing Your Way Around Lamp.U

Here’s what you should get with your unit:

Setting Up Your Device

Step 1:

Take your smartphone and put it in the Holder horizontally (landscape). The Holder is spring loaded at the top. To insert your phone into the Holder, pull the top portion of the Holder upwards and slide your phone in.

The camera should be roughly located at the center of the Lamp.U. Don’t worry too much about positioning for now, we will adjust them in later steps.

Note: if you are using a larger phone, you may have to remove your phone case

Step 2:

Pull slightly the top of the Holder, loosening it slightly, move your smartphone left or right so that the camera is centered on the device.

Step 3:

Behind the Holder, there is a small adjustment screw. Loosen it slightly so that you can move the Holder up & down.

Move your Holder and smartphone so that the camera is level and aligned with the LEDs.

After you are satisfied, tighten the small screw to lock the position in place.

Step 4:

To power on the device, press the Power Button and you are ready to take your first picture!

Step 5 (Optional):

The function of the Chin Guard is to standardize the distance from the Lamp.U to the patient’s teeth. This also functions as a stabilizer when you are taking picture.

To use it, slide in the Chin Guard to the front side of the Bracket. Using the Chin Guard is optional, so you can take it off if you would like some variation when taking pictures or you would like to get a more close up shot.

Step 6 (Optional):

Diffuser Filter can be attached to both left and right LED to give a softer light to the object, akin to a softbox.

Each Diffuser Filter is equipped with magnets. To use this, align the magnet on the Diffuser Filter to the magnet on the LED. They will snap on easily.

Step 7 (Optional):

Polar Filter can be installed to reduce/eliminate light reflection on the teeth, which can help you see colors and details on the teeth better.

All three filters have to be installed at the same time to enable this effect. Each Side Polar Filter is equipped with magnets. To use this, align the magnet on the Side Polar Filter to the magnet on the LED. They will snap on easily.

For the Center Polar Filter, there is a pair of magnets that is located on the center portion of Lamp.U, near to where your phone camera is. Align those magnets with the magnets found on the Center Polar Filter, and they will snap on easily.

Your camera will see through the Center Polar Filter, while both right and left LEDs will be covered by the Side Polar Filter.

Bluetooth Connection

First Connection:

Lamp.U is equipped with a Bluetooth connection to your smartphone, where pressing the Shutter Button that is located on your thumb will enable you to quickly take pictures. This function allows Lamp.U to be easily used one-handed.

To connect for the first time, turn on the device (LED ON). Scan the Bluetooth connection on your phone, and look for “AB Shutter”. After connection is successful, open your default camera app and try the Shutter Button.

When using the device on the next occassion with the same smartphone, this connection is automatically re-established.

Connecting with Another Device:

If you want to connect Lamp.U with another device, make sure that the previously connected smartphone has it’s Bluetooth turned off. Now with the Lamp.U powered up (LED ON), use the new smartphone to scan the Bluetooth and connect to “AB Shutter”.

Battery Charging

Lamp.U is equipped with rechargeable Li-ion battery, which when depleted will need to be recharged. The battery is estimated to last for one week under normal use condition, but may vary depending on your usage.

To charge the battery, use the supplied Charing Cable which is magnetic, and attach it to a normal USB-A 5V 1A (common phone charger). Small light can be seen on the side of the charging port and will turn red when the device is charging. This light will turn blue if the charging process is complete.

We recommend to charge the battery before completely depleting the battery, because the light produced by the LED is not as optimal then. This causes less than optimal / sub-standard image capture.
